hello you..yeah you...

uh yeah, so long time no post right. i wish i could say that my absence from LJ was mainly due to being productive in scholarly pursuits and such. but that wouldn't be entirely true. though i have many irons in the fire at the moment, i've mostly been partying and working. but i thought i'd take a few moments to squee about a few things. namely GLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

as some of you may recall i dedicated an entire post to the awesome that is "glee" after the pilot aired way back in may i think. well since then, it has hit the fall line up and i cannot recall being this excited about a show since arrested development. it's been a while since i've actively looked forward to a show coming on. so kudos to ryan murphy and crew...

what else??...oh yeah, kinda riding the late train to "dollhouse." finally got on board after the catching the rest of s1 (thanks netflix). i should have known better than to doubt the god we call whedon. still not as good as the shows that have proceeded it, but it's got potential especially if they bring back dr. saunders, and let's face it, amy acker could have sexy chemistry w/ a cactus and it'd make my lady parts sing. when DH first aired my major problem w/ it was that it didn't feel like a whedon show. it felt like whedon does abrams and i was left feeling a bit cold and disappointed. it took until "man on the street" to get that whedon feeling and by "need" it felt full on whedonverse.

and finally...SKINS, the show as a whole is kinda redundant, but emily and naomi are cute and i'm not immune to the sweetness that is thomas...i just want to give that boy a hug...the rest of the characters are tossers. so stick that up your union jack...needless to say, can't wait for series 4!!

"i killed sirus black"...

i love when geeky related movies come out because it's like the closest thing to a happening that us ordinary folks can get. people really get into the spirit of it all and that's just kick ass. so the 12am screening was made extra sweet because of the pageantry of hardcore fans. that and i didn't have to knock out any little kids for being annoying...anyhoo, here's what i thought of the film:

the good:

Helena Bonaham-Carter:

more bella and her crazy sexual energy...with everyone!! *swoons* if ever there was a part tailor made for someone, HBC was divinely selected to be bella. bella is a locomotive made of sexy/crazy and all you want to do is hop on that crazy train and ride it until it crashes and burns.

Alan Rickman:

another usual suspect i know, but again...this is another part that is tailor made. what he does w/ a single sneer is just so damn impressive. couple that w/ his inflection and beat pauses. the dude is a master. the unbreakable spell scene is really cool because you finally get to see some of the complexities that embody snape. snape got totally short changed the last movie, so it way good to see more of him in this outing.

Balance is a beautiful thing:

i liked that this film had a great balance of light and weighty. there are some really great comedic bits. as well as some very very cool action sequences. so as a viewer you get to breathe a bit between the drama and angst. though i must confess that there is a transitional scene that is so very dawson's creek, that it made me laugh.

Lavender Brown:

speaking of comedic, lavender brown was hysterically funny in all her desperate glory. jessie cave was awesome. she kinda reminded me a bit of jennifer sanders's edena monsoon. favorite lavender moment is when she presents ron w/ his necklace.

Casting:

jessie cave wasn't the only great bit of casting, jim broadbent as slugghorn and freddie stroma and cormac mclaggen were also masterful strokes to add to the landscape of the HP canvas.

Slugghorn:

far more sympathetic in the movie than the book. and more affable than annoying. broadbent did a lot w/ what could have been a very one dimensional character. he came off like a really creepy uncle, but not the creepy uncle who touched you.

Quidditch!!

easily the best sequence of quidditch in any of the films.

Ginny:

ginny is a straight up player and i loved every second of it.

Dumbledore's death:

it was just a really cool scene.

Tom Felton:

he probably gave the best performance of his peers. you actually feel sorry for draco a little bit. and the thing that really comes through is how draco really foils harry in that he wants to be everything that harry is but fails so miserably.

Luna:

can't ever have enough luna lovegood! :)

the old college try:

emma watson finally got some acting lessons and applied what she learnt. seems she finally figured out the difference between anxious and jittery eyebrow action.

The Bad:

On the cutting room floor:

i think they left out a lot of relevant information from the book. but the most glaring omissions are the clues that lead up to revelation of the HBP's identity and dumbledore explaining to harry about what the other artifacts that became horcruxes. makes DD seem a bit irresponsible by getting himself murdered w/o giving harry a heads up.

Weird pseudo-lesbian voldermort:

that kid was just weird.

A little too much time at the "creek":

i think the teen angst could have been taken down a notch.

Not enough duelin':

i think this was in dereference to the romantic entanglements. but i felt a bit cheated from the condensed astronomy tower stand off. the brief encounter at the burrow didn't cut it and honestly didn't particularly make sense especially given the events that occur in book 7. so it will seem redundant when the wedding scene takes place.

Cissy:

here is an instance when casting dropped the ball. i'm sure helen mcrory is a fine actor. but hello, she's no narcissa malfoy. this was a major fail on both the casting, the art and wardrobe depts' part. it's really sad because there was a huge pool of talent to choose from.

other than these few things, i think on the whole it was a more than solid outing. i think it's the best film so far. and it's stokin' my HP fires somethin' fierce. definitely worth the coin and the long wait!!
10 reasons why no more "twilight" movies should be made...

um...just wow. i watched this today and nearly went into a diabetic coma. or just a plain ol' coma as it was boring as fuck. i dunno, i think i'm just done w/ vampires now because not only is the theme over used, but people keep fucking up the shit that make vampires cool. so here are 10 reasons why they need to stop making more twilight movies:

1) the cast sucks...

it seems like everyone went to the emma watson school of acting. that is not a compliment. shame on you elizabeth reaser.

2) the characters suck...

i wish they were all dead. then that way i know for a fact that no more of these lame fucking movies would ever see the light of day. they would have been better off using props made of popsicle sticks and stop animation w/ cardboard mouths. it would have been cheaper and they would have gotten more out of the actors.

3) vampire baseball...

no one should ever have to be subjected to witnessing quite possibly the lamest fucking thing ever created by man and/or vampire.

4) gaymance...

is never fun to watch. it just makes you want to vomit. your lame luv sucks!!

5) the script sucked...

it's like the re-imagining of a 12 year old girl's idea of a rape fantasy.

6) it's a 12 year old girl's rape fantasy.

7) these vampires are pussies...

8) the SFX look like something a high school film enthusiast creamed himself over while fucking around on final cut pro...

9) robert pattison's hair has a SAG card...

i'm just tired robert pattison's stupid hair and this look should not be encouraged...

10) the money could just be spent on something as equally shitty but infinitely more fun...

like pooty tang 2: biggie shorty's revenge...now i'd love to see that shit get made.

iffen you don't like it , you can suck it...

i've spent a great deal of time in the past defending my love of soap operas. to the average onlooker, soaps are a mindless bit of prattle that is the basically the ramblings of a barely non-retarded person. to me, soaps represent well spent afternoons hangin' out with my grandma.and while initially i enjoyed just hanging out w/ my grandmother, watching here "stories." as the years went on, i began to develop an appreciation for the genre that has helped me be a more active and perceptive tv and movie viewer.

stuff like conflict, character development and story arcs are very formulaic in soaps, but they have a structure that you can understand and apply in your own writing. and i won't lie, i'd love to write for a soap one day because i can't think of a more fun gig. all that aside, i haven't really watched them at all the last few years mainly because the ones that i loved stopped being fun. but the cool thing about soaps is, you can stop watching them for years, come back to them and watch a week's worth of eps. and it's like you never stopped. this has happened to me on numerous occasions, but i have to say the my recent return to soaps has been the most satisfying. i've been a huge fan of crystal chappell's since her stint on days of our lives. she's one of the performers i point to when i tell people that daytime tv has some of the finest actors in the biz. the things that one can do w/ a tilt in her head or an arch of her brow just blows me away.
i missed the introduction of her character into the guiding light canvas because i had stopped watching it a few years before it happened. so i missed all her "bad" girl antics as olivia spencer.

but through the awesomeness of youtube, i got to catch some stuff and just from those clips and watching the show in real time, you can see how much the character has grown and fleshed out. it's interesting to see how this particular storyline has played out though. it started off with such a soap operatic premise of 2 people brought together under improbable circumstances. what was to follow just happen to be probably the best storyline i've seen on any soap. and i'm not saying that because it offers some shallow moments of GoG goodness, because honestly this storyline could have been done straight it still would have been amazing to watch. grant it, the actors are really what sell it.

so yeah, olivia and natalia start off kinda friendly then the standard soap device of pitting them against each other as romantic rivals and a dead husband and heart transplant later...*WHAM* we're in for a ride on the sexy train. but it's the stuff that happens before we even make it to the station of love that is just really fantastic. i've mentioned how great crystal chappell is, but i have to give props to jessica leccia too because you'll hear actors say that they're only as good as the person they're playing against. i've never scene leccia in anything but she more than holds her own w/ a seasoned pro like chappell. of course she's ridiculously beautiful, but in natalia, leccia takes what can be a really one dimensional character and makes her so very real.

natalia is in a sense an every day kind of woman. but she has these complexities you don't expect. as many people have mentioned and i too find this a very different and unique aspect of her character is that she's deeply rooted in her religious beliefs. and to see her struggle w/ life and go to that source of comfort and guidance is, at least for me, kind of mind blowing. in the past you would only see characters enter a chapel or what have you for some obligatory prayer and then that's it. but w/ natalia it's very much a part of who she is and you see how it drives her. and the irony of this is, natty's religion is one of the things that drives her to olivia but at the same time it also was and is the thing that keeps her away from olivia. i love that complexity even though it frustrates me as a viewer, because i'm a hopeless romantic and want to see these two wacky kids get together.

what i like the most about this story is how it progressed slowly. one of the off putting things about soaps w/in the past few years is how characters would just hop into bed w/ anyone after only a handshake. these two characters have crazy chemistry and it's just an awesome thing to watch. i think i enjoy their fights and arguments as much if not more so than their "lovie dovie" moments. whatever the case maybe, the passion they have for each other is real intense and honestly that's what you want in any great couple.

and sweet merciful jesus the food metaphors, caresses, lingering gazes and unabashed adoration of each other is enough to send the viewer over the edge. i watch the clips on YT as well as on tv, so i read the comments left by other viewers and sometimes get frustrated w/ how fickle the can be. sometimes i read comment after comment complaining about lack of kisses as if that was the be all-end all of physical intimacy. don't get me wrong i'm a huge fan of kissing. especially if kissing involves hot people. but there is soooo much more going on in those scenes that i can forgive the slowness of that much coveted daytime "same-sex" kiss.

after watching all the backstory scenes i'm still amazed how this story evolved and it makes me appreciate where the story is now. it's very realistic to me. i don't know if i as a person could even experience going through something like what has been outlined in this storyline. i think some of the themes we see working here are really heavy in the sense that i can't imagine what it would be like to fall in love w/ my best friend especially if said friend was once a romantic rival w/ whom i shared this incredibly complicated history. i'd be scared shitless too. i won't even get into the logistics of how having one of the actors in said storyline is/was very pregnant for much of filming and i'm sure that only complicated how to proceed w/ the story.

anyway, i'm very much in love w/ this storyline because it hearkens back to what i love about soaps, romance, conflict, famliy ties, and love.

fic/drabble...it's in her kiss (olivia/natalia)

another short otalia piece
Author: amluv
Fandom: Guiding Light
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: G/PG
Archive: Passion and Perfection; Realm of the Shadow
Disclaimer: Characters are the property of Proctor and Gamble, CBS and other nebulous entities...
AN 1: unbeta’d…so ya know, mistakes are bound to be made…

With coffee mug in hand, Natalia Rivera settled herself on the bench that sat on the porch of the farm house. Even after having several sips of tea, she could still taste the flavors from Olivia Spencer's lips. The taste of cinnamon and something else still stung her tongue as she ran them over her lips again. Natalia tried to recapture the memory of soft, full lips pressed against hers. It was delicious. Not so much the lingering flavor, but the sensation that it left in its wake. The memory of it stirred something inside her. A hidden something that lay dormant somewhere in the deep recesses of her libido.

How could a simple kiss have such a huge effect? But that's just it, she thought to herself. It wasn't just a simple kiss. It was a moment a year in the making. The culmination of loss, heartbreak, pain, rebuilding, and ultimately, love. Natalia ran delicate fingers over her lips, feeling them pull into an involuntary smile and something inside her fluttered. She was indeed in love. This wasn't some held fast ideal of a sixteen year old's longing, but real love. True love.

She felt heady and ethereal like that young girl dazzled by the dark haired boy with the bedroom eyes and easy smile. But she also felt bolstered and steady, grounded in a way that implied stability. How could that be possible, to feel weightless and anchored at the same time? But that's what Olivia did for her and it made her love her that much more.

Natalia looked out into the inky night, it was quiet...peaceful. Only the soft rustling of the leaves in the wind could be heard. That's when the gentle woman with the sweet smile, soft eyes and dimpled cheek, closed her eyes and offered up a small prayer. She thanked god for all her blessings and she hoped that she would continue to be worthy of such amazing gifts. So in short, for Natalia Rivera, life was good.

and i wanted to shake off some writer's rust, here's my attempt to write a sonnet:

Untitled 1

Crows sing of a dark day that is looming,
Their mournful tune seeking chorus with spring.
Just a sad song without a melody.
And my heart breaks when it should be blooming.
You are lost to me, a constant memory.
Then the wind whistles in sweet protest.
A zephyr kiss to soothe the night's unrest.
Its cool caress upon my tender flesh,
Braced against a fleeting thought unbidden.
Remembrances of naked desire,
Calling back to a want in me, hidden.
The flame still burns and I feel the fire.
Your melancholy eyes haunt my dreams.
Your name upon my lips, my mournful song.

i still hate you j.j. abrams...

<lj-embed id="82" />

so i finally saw star trek and while i didn't hate it, it didn't exactly rock my socks the way it has others. the best way i can describe it is, 1 part star wars, 1 part alias, and 2 parts bruckheimer shaken, stirred and poured into a tall glass of sexy homoerotic awesomeness because the homoeroticism in this flick is truly awesome. and let's face it, star trek has a proud history of homoerotic subtext, after all it is the fandom that spawned slash. so yeah let's start off w/ the stuff i liked:

1)

i really liked the nod to the OS w/ each character giving a nod to the old schoolers. karl urban especially was fun to watch because it seemed as if he spent a few months watching deforrest kelly clips on youtube and decided that was the way he was gonna play it. kudos to you sexy mr. urban and your badass ceasar self...yeah i know...hello i'm a gigantic geek!!

2)

the over abundance of sexy. i kept wondering whether or not it was wrong that i <strike>wanted</strike> thought an impromptu orgy would break out at any moment?? i hope intergalactic life is filled w/ hot, sexy people who just want to be sexy w/ each other.

3)

william shatner wasn't in it...

4)

that someone was willing to give winona ryder work. no seriously. hopefully this will be the start of a comeback of some sort.

5)

although i have some issues w/ some of the themes and plot, it was actually a really interesting story with a solid script. which basically kept it from being a complete bruckheimer sized turd.

6)

kirk continually getting his ass handed to him. priceless son!!

stuff i didn't like:

1)

while most of the SFX were pretty cool, man did they skimp on the make-up. seriously, it looked like that just slathered some green kool-aid on rachael nichols and let chris pine just hump away on her.

2)

i prefer klingons to romulans...sorry, romulans just aren't badass enough for my taste.

3)

stupid villain syndrome. it just annoys me that villains just come up w/ the lamest fuckin' reasons for the overly elaborate plots that they come up to do the shit they do. can't the villain just be evil?? do we really need to know that he's sucking whole planets into a man-made black hole because he's sad his wife and baby were killed?? no, we don't. we really don't need to feel sympathy for the villain. that's why we have anti-heroes.

4) while i understand that this is a re-imagining of the trek franchise, i think it deviates a bit too far from the true essence of what star trek is at its core. which is basically how man defines himself through his connection w/ that which it outside of him. this movie is all about the hero's journey. this is clearly kirk and spock's story. hopefully the next movie will go back to the root of trek and be about the exploring of what's beyond space.

okay so on a scale from last season felicity to first season LOST. i give "star trek" a season one ALIAS.

<lj-embed id="81" />

i don't know why, but i'm totally addicted to watching COPS...it is like a train wreck that you can't help but watch...and since i've seen so many episodes at this point, i'd like to think that i've learned something...1) if you are told to "get down on the ground, you really should, cuz nothing good will come from not doing so...

2) although i'm pretty sure it's not pleasant to experience, watching someone get tazed is fuckin' hilarious...

3) if you have to ask whether or not the prostitute you're about to pick up is in fact a cop, chances are, she is one...keep it in your pants bubba...

4) crystal meth is a helluva drug...

5) no matter how fast you think you are...you can't out run a cop...not even a one legged one...

6) no matter where you are, crack whores pretty much look the same...

7) there are place on earth where someone still thinks a mullet is a good idea...

8) no one can escape a chicken wing hold...

9) it is never...i repeat never a good idea to jump out of a moving vehicle especially if you're still driving it...

10) a kiddie pool is a horrible place to hide...

bringing back tv musicals...

television has a proud history of awesomely shitty musical shows...

<lj-embed id="78" />

okay admittedly, i actually loved cop rock...

<lj-embed id="79" />

*that's for my buddy la-la*

but oddly enough, i think FOX...yes FOX finally got it right w/ <lj-embed id="80" />

i saw the promos for this show and it seemed interesting so i thought i'd give it a whirl and see what pops. and i was pleasantly surprised. it doesn't hurt that ryan murphy is at the helm and while i am not a fan of nip/tuck, i did thoroughly enjoy "popular" and this has many shades of "popular" and as well as "mean girls" w/ it's snappy dialog and decent balance of camp and substance. unlike cop rock or viva laughlin, glee has a seamless and plausible way of incorporating the music into the story lines. i really hope that the pilot was a preview of what's to come. cuz let's face it, you can't have enough jane lynch yelling and saying crazy shit on your tv now can you??

fic/drabble...the way she says my name (olivia/natalia)

shaking off some fic writing rust. i wrote this last week just to test the waters and see if i can actually write these 2...

Author: amluv
Fandom: Guiding Light
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: G/PG
Archive: Passion and Perfection; Realm of the Shadow
Disclaimer: Characters are the property of Proctor and Gamble, CBS and other nebulous entities...
AN 1: unbeta’d…so ya know, mistakes are bound to be made…
AN 2: because these two are ridiculously cute and everytime Natty says "Olivia"...it's a swoon worthy moment...

When Natalia says my name...
"Olivia...."

It's like a promise and I want to believe again.

I love the way she says my name in a hushed tone...
"Olivia..."

I know I should be ashamed, but I see how her eyes twinkle and her cheeks dimple and I can't help but smile.

There's something in the way she says my name...
"Olivia..."

I've disappointed in some way and I vow to do better just so I never have to see her soulful eyes dim in my direction ever again.

She says my name...
"Olivia..."

I know she's putting all her trust in me. And I want to be worthy of it.

Natalia cries out my name when we're making love...
"Olivia..."

She's telling me that I'm the only one. And I know she means it.

My name drips from her lips like a whispered prayer...
"Olivia..."

It becomes a sacred word and I finally understand why I'm here. There's more to me than just flesh and bone. And for the first time since the birth of my daughter do I feel real.

The way she says my name conveys more than just acknowledging my presence, it proves my existence because in her eyes, I am more than just my name.

the post lj ate...

it's been a loooooooong time...yeah i know. but i've been feelin' lazy plus i done went out and got me a life. hence the feeling of lazy. and since i've got a bunch of random things on my mind i figured i'd just write an entry on the trust ol' LJ. so first up:

"Otalia"

okay so i got sucked back into soaps again. well not soaps per se, just "guiding light." now i haven't watched guiding light since the mid 90s. and at some point during my hiatus from GL, crystal chappell joined the cast as the resident bitch. now i remember crystal from her on days of our lives as dr. carly manning. and boy did i have a crush on dr. carly manning. needless to say, that crush has endured as she is still smokin' hot and even moreso now that she's gotten a bit more curvier. time has been extremely kind to mzz chappell. unfortunately the same cannot be said for kim zimmer, but i digress. so okay, i haven't watched this show in years and i had no intention of watching it ever again, until i heard some random rumor that crystal chappell was makin' out w/ some chick on tv. now my 16 year old self would not have forgiven my 30 something year old self for not checking that out. so i caught the scene on youtube. when i first saw it, i thought it was like some kind of stunt to compete w/ the stuff that all my children had been doing w/ their lesbian storyline. so i kinda dismissed it.

so one night i had a wicked case of insomnia and started watching random vid and i came across another GL clip and you know how that goes you watch one clip and the next thing you know it's 7 the next morning and you're craving pancakes and/or demerol. what came to discover is that this storyline w/ crystal chappell was actually a gradual build up to the romantic relationship she was gonna have w/ this other female character. i won't lie, i fell for it hook, line, and sinker. it carries all of the elements i love about soaps. the actors have mad chemistry which automatically make them compelling. they are thrown together by circumstances of monumental soap operatic proportions. (the "talia" half of "otatila" husband dies in a car crash, just as olivia, (the "o" half) in dying and in desperate need of a heart. the metaphor escapes no one. but yeah, i'm hooked

let's see..oh yeah my other shiny new toy:

Duffy

the teena marie of her generation...not really, but she's a mega short white chick w/ a lot of soul...

<lj-embed id="74" />

<3 this song...

speaking of <3ing songs i saw "slumdog millionaire" and the soundtrack is amazing, but the standout track is MIA's "paper planes" i fuckin' loooooove this song...(high fives the beetle brat cuz she was the first person i know who was up on MIA and now i see why) the narrative is great and it really fit the movie very well...

<lj-embed id="75" />

there's other random crap, but i'd like to finish up w/ a shout out to Harry Kalas, the voice of the Phillies and in my opinion the best sports announcer of all time...suck it coselle...

R.I.P. Harry the K, watching games will never be the same.

<lj-embed id="76" />

reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated...and other shit...

so yeah, i know it's been a while since i last updated and the last post was kinda *whoosh* but a lot has happened since then...

first up:

the philadlphia phillies won the freakin' world series!! and let me tell you, this town went apeshit that night and i was right smack dab in the middle of it. best. night. ever.
well, until the cars got turned over and small fires were ignited, but still a helluva lot tamer than detroit. philly fans take a lot of shit because we're hard on our teams and while this is true, i will also say that no body cheers for their teams as hard as we do or is more willing to go through certain lengths to prove that you don't come into this joint and act like you own the place. and who ever has a problem w/ that can go suck a rubber dick. *that's my grand pop's encase you were wondering*...

anyhoo, so lots of celebrating has been going on in the city of brotherly love, which brings me to point #2:

obama beats the crap outta the mccain-bot and his hockey bitch. while i'm not totally sold on obama, i'd rather drive a rusty hammer into my skull than have to sit through another 4 years of the republican regime. i've been sick for the past week, the down side to braving the elements to watch the phillies annihilate tampa bay, but i managed to get out of bed long enough to get to the polls.

a few things struck me as i watched the returns. the first is that i honestly never thought i'd live to see a black person become president in my lifetime. the second, my grandmother would have really enjoyed what i was witnessing. and the third, when looking at the respective crowds of both candidates, it was pretty easy to see *why* obama won. as i watched obama give his speech, the gravity of the night set in and i became overwhelmed by the moment. and really hope the sincerity i think i saw as he spoke those words is real and the we can finally move past this 8 year nightmare we've been living in.

Okay, I give...

I've got a lot of crap going on in my brain at the moment and I kinda feel like I'm in need of a cranial equivalent of a colonic. So this maybe an incoherent stream of conscious post, so you've been warned.

Where to begin?? Um, let's see, I was riding the trolley today and I can honestly say it was the worst ride I've had in a really long time on public transportation. There were a group of black young "men," and they were loud, obnoxious and just unbelievably disrespectful. It literally took everything in side me to keep from cracking at least one of them in the jaw. The thing that what made me so angry is that they made me, along with the other black commuters on the trolley feel shame. Because they behaved the way we are "expected" to behave, loud, ignorant, boorish...like niggers. The thing is, they didn't even have the common sense enough to be ashamed. And all I could think is, "how dare you?? how dare you make me feel like I need to apologize for being black??" I don't know how to describe what that feels like. But it is...I don't know, it's just... fuck, you know, is this what all that fighting for a better life has come to? Did all those people who sacrificed so much so that our generation and the following ones could have a better shot?? So that just made me more pissed...no it made me sad and hollow.

So I go home and take a shower, get dinner and sit in front of the tv and I remember that I had DVR'd "the Black List" which is a documentary HBO ran a few days ago that focused on several prominent black people in various fields . So I put that on and it was like serendipity, that is if I believed in such things, but yeah, it was appropriate counter to what happened earlier, and of all people, Al Sharpton was the one who made me feel better, within this context. Anyway, all of this stuff segues into my current thoughts on the up coming elections, as Colin Powell was one of the people highlighted in the doc. He said something that struck me, actually he said a couple of things that struck me, but that's neither here nor there, but this particular thing was to the effect that we now live in an age where we've had two black Secretaries of State, in succession and now we have a strong candidate running for the office of President, look how far we've come. At least that's the gist.
What struck me is that maybe I was a bit too harsh on him as I have an extremely unforgiving opinion of black republicans. I think he genuinely wanted to make a difference during his tenure in office, but it sucked that it was caught up in the clusterfuck that is the Bush Admin. Which brings me to the real issue that is needling me. The presidential race and just how far have we as a race truly come.

I hate the republican party and everything they represent. Plain and simple. I have friends who are republicans whom I love dearly, which is why I never talk politics or religion, another thing I absolutely abhor, with them. Not that I'm this drum banging democrat, because let's face it, they're full of shit too, however for the most part the basics of their ideology is more in line w/ mine. Anyway the thing that I can't seem to wrap my brain around is after 8 years...1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 of what will no doubt go down in the annuls of history as the worst administration ever...of any government. Why is anyone even entertaining the thought of allowing the republicans near the gates of the white house much less get back in there so they can fuck everything up even more than it's already fucked up. It makes no sense. NONE! I have so little in faith in people, I'm bordering on apathy. You know why, because people are stupid, at least the that is what the cynic in me says. I mean no one is that fucking misguided, not after witnessing what's going around them. All I keep hearing is about what's going on in the middle east, but what about what going on here? Why are you spending money there when there is a huge chunk of the population way beyond the poverty line? Why are school budgets being cut to the bone? What about health care or social security? I'm more afraid if the muthafucka around the corner w/ a gun than I am of a terrorist attack. And I'm thinking I'm not alone on that score. But that too is neither here nor there.

So the conventions roll around and it's all a big circle jerk and an endless litany of empty promises and pandering. More power to all you assholes dems and reps alike, good luck and leave me the fuck alone. But oh no, it's not over. Not when the second coming of the virgin Mary is apparently in out midst. I once begrudgingly kinda respected John McCain, that is until he went coo-coo for coco puffs. I was one of the very few moderate reps. in gov't, so I didn't have a hard hate-on for him as much as I did the rest. So forgive me if I'm perplexed by the strange turn he's taking, and by that I mean choose what I can best describe as a "lipstick whack job." I don't give a fuck about her kids or how she raised them. What I do give a fuck about is that this chick is not capable of divorcing herself from her own belief system in a way necessary to be a representative of the people of this country. The thing I could appreciate about Cheney, (never thought i'd ever say those words) but he didn't give a fuck about anything but lining his pockets. All that creepy shit w/ his daughter aside, he basically kept his shit about making money. But this chick if a fanatic, you can see it in her eyes and that fuckin' scares me. It scares me that our rights are slowly but surely are being eroded by these...defrauders of justice and rapists of liberty. And if you have the notion that that isn't what's really happening, how can you be anything but a fool?? It starts w/ shit like the patriot act and ends in tattooed numbers and labor camps. The question is, who will charge our shores to liberate us from ourselves??
