uh yeah, so long time no post right. i wish i could say that my absence from LJ was mainly due to being productive in scholarly pursuits and such. but that wouldn't be entirely true. though i have many irons in the fire at the moment, i've mostly been partying and working. but i thought i'd take a few moments to squee about a few things. namely GLEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

as some of you may recall i dedicated an entire post to the awesome that is "glee" after the pilot aired way back in may i think. well since then, it has hit the fall line up and i cannot recall being this excited about a show since arrested development. it's been a while since i've actively looked forward to a show coming on. so kudos to ryan murphy and crew...

what else??...oh yeah, kinda riding the late train to "dollhouse." finally got on board after the catching the rest of s1 (thanks netflix). i should have known better than to doubt the god we call whedon. still not as good as the shows that have proceeded it, but it's got potential especially if they bring back dr. saunders, and let's face it, amy acker could have sexy chemistry w/ a cactus and it'd make my lady parts sing. when DH first aired my major problem w/ it was that it didn't feel like a whedon show. it felt like whedon does abrams and i was left feeling a bit cold and disappointed. it took until "man on the street" to get that whedon feeling and by "need" it felt full on whedonverse.

and finally...SKINS, the show as a whole is kinda redundant, but emily and naomi are cute and i'm not immune to the sweetness that is thomas...i just want to give that boy a hug...the rest of the characters are tossers. so stick that up your union jack...needless to say, can't wait for series 4!!

this shit is hilarious...

10 reasons why i love "the thing with 2 heads"...

1) rosie grier...

2) you can play a drinking game by counting how many times someone says "black bastard"

3) the best acting in the movie is done by the guy playing the 2 headed gorilla...

4) the fact that they perform an extremely complicated surgery in a basement...

5) it has one of the awesomest car chases ever and i'm sure it is what inspired the dukes of hazzard...

6) "you gotta go..." if you ever see this flick, you'll know what i mean...

7) ray milland...the poor bastard...

8) the constant reassurance that californian law enforcement is completely inept...

9) this flick is pure 70s filmmaking...

10) it's just plain fun to watch...

10 reasons why no more "twilight" movies should be made...
glines girls
[info]amluv

um...just wow. i watched this today and nearly went into a diabetic coma. or just a plain ol' coma as it was boring as fuck. i dunno, i think i'm just done w/ vampires now because not only is the theme over used, but people keep fucking up the shit that make vampires cool. so here are 10 reasons why they need to stop making more twilight movies:

1) the cast sucks...

it seems like everyone went to the emma watson school of acting. that is not a compliment. shame on you elizabeth reaser.

2) the characters suck...

i wish they were all dead. then that way i know for a fact that no more of these lame fucking movies would ever see the light of day. they would have been better off using props made of popsicle sticks and stop animation w/ cardboard mouths. it would have been cheaper and they would have gotten more out of the actors.

3) vampire baseball...

no one should ever have to be subjected to witnessing quite possibly the lamest fucking thing ever created by man and/or vampire.

4) gaymance...

is never fun to watch. it just makes you want to vomit. your lame luv sucks!!

5) the script sucked...

it's like the re-imagining of a 12 year old girl's idea of a rape fantasy.

6) it's a 12 year old girl's rape fantasy.

7) these vampires are pussies...

8) the SFX look like something a high school film enthusiast creamed himself over while fucking around on final cut pro...

9) robert pattison's hair has a SAG card...

i'm just tired robert pattison's stupid hair and this look should not be encouraged...

10) the money could just be spent on something as equally shitty but infinitely more fun...

like pooty tang 2: biggie shorty's revenge...now i'd love to see that shit get made.

if i could take it behind the jr. high and get it pregnant, i totally would!! or HP & the HBP=WOW!!

i've spent a great deal of time in the past defending my love of soap operas. to the average onlooker, soaps are a mindless bit of prattle that is the basically the ramblings of a barely non-retarded person. to me, soaps represent well spent afternoons hangin' out with my grandma.and while initially i enjoyed just hanging out w/ my grandmother, watching here "stories." as the years went on, i began to develop an appreciation for the genre that has helped me be a more active and perceptive tv and movie viewer.

stuff like conflict, character development and story arcs are very formulaic in soaps, but they have a structure that you can understand and apply in your own writing. and i won't lie, i'd love to write for a soap one day because i can't think of a more fun gig. all that aside, i haven't really watched them at all the last few years mainly because the ones that i loved stopped being fun. but the cool thing about soaps is, you can stop watching them for years, come back to them and watch a week's worth of eps. and it's like you never stopped. this has happened to me on numerous occasions, but i have to say the my recent return to soaps has been the most satisfying. here are my thoughts on the otalia storyline )

and i wanted to shake off some writer's rust, here's my attempt to write a sonnet:

Untitled 1

Crows sing of a dark day that is looming,
Their mournful tune seeking chorus with spring.
Just a sad song without a melody.
And my heart breaks when it should be blooming.
You are lost to me, a constant memory.
Then the wind whistles in sweet protest.
A zephyr kiss to soothe the night's unrest.
Its cool caress upon my tender flesh,
Braced against a fleeting thought unbidden.
Remembrances of naked desire,
Calling back to a want in me, hidden.
The flame still burns and I feel the fire.
Your melancholy eyes haunt my dreams.
Your name upon my lips, my mournful song.

i still hate you j.j. abrams...

so i finally saw star trek and while i didn't hate it, it didn't exactly rock my socks the way it has others. the best way i can describe it is, 1 part star wars, 1 part alias, and 2 parts bruckheimer shaken, stirred and poured into a tall glass of sexy homoerotic awesomeness because the homoeroticism in this flick is truly awesome. and let's face it, star trek has a proud history of homoerotic subtext, after all it is the fandom that spawned slash. spoilers and other thoughts... )

it's been a loooooooong time...yeah i know. but i've been feelin' lazy plus i done went out and got me a life. hence the feeling of lazy. and since i've got a bunch of random things on my mind i figured i'd just write an entry on the trust ol' LJ. so first up:

"Otalia"

okay so i got sucked back into soaps again. well not soaps per se, just "guiding light." now i haven't watched guiding light since the mid 90s. and at some point during my hiatus from GL, crystal chappell joined the cast as the resident bitch. now i remember crystal from her on days of our lives as dr. carly manning. and boy did i have a crush on dr. carly manning. needless to say, that crush has endured as she is still smokin' hot and even moreso now that she's gotten a bit more curvier. time has been extremely kind to mzz chappell. unfortunately the same cannot be said for kim zimmer, but i digress. so okay, i haven't watched this show in years and i had no intention of watching it ever again, until i heard some random rumor that crystal chappell was makin' out w/ some chick on tv. now my 16 year old self would not have forgiven my 30 something year old self for not checking that out. so i caught the scene on youtube. when i first saw it, i thought it was like some kind of stunt to compete w/ the stuff that all my children had been doing w/ their lesbian storyline. so i kinda dismissed it.

so one night i had a wicked case of insomnia and started watching random vid and i came across another GL clip and you know how that goes you watch one clip and the next thing you know it's 7 the next morning and you're craving pancakes and/or demerol. what came to discover is that this storyline w/ crystal chappell was actually a gradual build up to the romantic relationship she was gonna have w/ this other female character. i won't lie, i fell for it hook, line, and sinker. it carries all of the elements i love about soaps. the actors have mad chemistry which automatically make them compelling. they are thrown together by circumstances of monumental soap operatic proportions. (the "talia" half of "otatila" husband dies in a car crash, just as olivia, (the "o" half) in dying and in desperate need of a heart. the metaphor escapes no one. but yeah, i'm hooked

let's see..oh yeah my other shiny new toy:

Duffy

the teena marie of her generation...not really, but she's a mega short white chick w/ a lot of soul...

<3 this song...

speaking of <3ing songs i saw "slumdog millionaire" and the soundtrack is amazing, but the standout track is MIA's "paper planes" i fuckin' loooooove this song...(high fives the beetle brat cuz she was the first person i know who was up on MIA and now i see why) the narrative is great and it really fit the movie very well...

there's other random crap, but i'd like to finish up w/ a shout out to Harry Kalas, the voice of the Phillies and in my opinion the best sports announcer of all time...suck it coselle...

R.I.P. Harry the K, watching games will never be the same.

reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated...and other shit...

[info]amluv
so yeah, i know it's been a while since i last updated and the last post was kinda *whoosh* but a lot has happened since then...

first up:

the philadlphia phillies won the freakin' world series!! and let me tell you, this town went apeshit that night and i was right smack dab in the middle of it. best. night. ever.
well, until the cars got turned over and small fires were ignited, but still a helluva lot tamer than detroit. philly fans take a lot of shit because we're hard on our teams and while this is true, i will also say that no body cheers for their teams as hard as we do or is more willing to go through certain lengths to prove that you don't come into this joint and act like you own the place. and who ever has a problem w/ that can go suck a rubber dick. *that's my grand pop's encase you were wondering*...

anyhoo, so lots of celebrating has been going on in the city of brotherly love, which brings me to point #2:

obama beats the crap outta the mccain-bot and his hockey bitch. while i'm not totally sold on obama, i'd rather drive a rusty hammer into my skull than have to sit through another 4 years of the republican regime. i've been sick for the past week, the down side to braving the elements to watch the phillies annihilate tampa bay, but i managed to get out of bed long enough to get to the polls.

a few things struck me as i watched the returns. the first is that i honestly never thought i'd live to see a black person become president in my lifetime. the second, my grandmother would have really enjoyed what i was witnessing. and the third, when looking at the respective crowds of both candidates, it was pretty easy to see *why* obama won. as i watched obama give his speech, the gravity of the night set in and i became overwhelmed by the moment. and really hope the sincerity i think i saw as he spoke those words is real and the we can finally move past this 8 year nightmare we've been living in.
